Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2017

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, University of Western Ontario's 1,338 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $197,995,808.28 in 2016.

Topping the list for the University of Western Ontario was Dean/Professor/Medical Doctor Michael Strong, who brought home $475,459.48 in 2016.

Following Michael Strong was President And Vice-Chancellor Amit Chakma, with annual earnings of $441,354.42. Dean/Professor Robert Kennedy made $439,999.84, Provost/Professor Janice Deakin made $343,000.08, and Professor Paul Beamish round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $340,079.82 for the University of Western Ontario 2017 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2016, 174 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 676 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 353 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 96 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 25 received between $250,001 and $300,000 , and 14 received over $300,000 at the University of Western Ontario.
