Ontario Public Sector Salary Disclosure - Sunshine List 2016

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

Every year, the Ontario government publishes its annual Sunshine List of public sector servants with six-figure salaries. According to the document, Attorney General's 1,790 staffers made the Sunshine List, earning total compensation of $311,834,502.35 in 2015.

At the top of the Attorney General Sunshine List

Topping the list for the Attorney General was Deputy Attorney General / Sous-procureur général Patrick Monahan, who brought home $294,588.32 in 2015.

Following Patrick Monahan was Crown Counsel / Avocate de la Couronne Mary Lou Armour, with annual earnings of $265,657.02. Senior Crown Counsel / Avocat principal de la Couronne Alexander Smith made $264,465.09, Counsel / Avocat Stephen Patterson made $254,407.12, and Assistant Crown Attorney / Procureur adjoint de la Couronne John Hanbidge round out the top-five highest-paid employees with $251,832.89 for the Attorney General 2016 Sunshine List.

Breaking down the numbers

Among employees who received more than six-figure salaries in 2015, 152 received earnings between $100,000 and $110,000 followed by 360 who received between $110,001 and $150,000 , 462 received between $150,001 and $200,000 , 811 received between $200,001 and $250,000 , 5 received between $250,001 and $300,000 at the Attorney General.
